body painting by Chelsea Rose

Chelsea Rose mainly paints ornamental, psychedelic figures on canvas, and she calls them "Spirit Paintings". She has recently done a lot of body painting sessions, and I think her style of painting and her theme of Spirit Paintings works really well on live models.

This is Chelsea Rose with her Spirit Paintings. I like how nice they all look together at her stand, and the fact that she offers face and body painting as well. She has a very distinct style in everything she does. I kind of envy people who have found Their Thing, and has managed to narrow down their artsy interest into a very specific thing.

Chelsea Rose has a beautiful website for her art: http://www.chelsearosearts.com/

She also blogs: http://lucidrose.blogspot.com/
I find it interesting to get a behind the scenes look at how other creative people go about their creativeness, and Chelsea Rose's blog is a good example of this.

renaissance bodies

A lot of John Currin's work is vulgar, some of it is ironic while also referencing the old masters. I'm not too interested in the more vulgar paintings he makes, but I like how he has drawn inspiration from the renaissance painter Lucas Cranach the elder when painting the bodies in this painting:

I've always liked to look at how the body has been represented in art through the ages- the old masters really painted a lot of interestingly shaped bodies.

Fritz Kahn - Man Machine (very steampunk!)

Comparing the body and the human being to a machine is partly a comical metaphor, partly a bleak metaphor.. and a lot of people even think that it is an accurate metaphor.

Fritz Kahn's illustrations of the body are weirdly practical and educational. He lived from 1888 to 1968, so these illustrations are from a time of industrial and technological growth and a naive faith in the wonders of the machine. Comparing the body to a machine was possibly more of a positive metaphor back then than it is now?

Sooo.. can a robot feel love? ;) I need to read the book called "Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep?" by Philip K. Dick.

the girl with the alien feet

Shen Xiaojing's right foot is 32 cm long, and apparently her unusual feet is scaring away possible marriages that her parents has arranged. Good for her! I would never have wanted to end up in an arranged marriage anyway, and I'm sure she'll find someone on her own who will appreciate her (and her feet!). I think Shen's feet are kind of elegant, in a sort of strange alien way.

flexibility

I knew I wouldn't be able to do this, but I still had to get down on the floor to give it a try..

I wonder how long I would have to practice for before I could manage to do it?? I wish I was the sort of person who would bother to practice doing stuff like that, as I would totally love to impress my friends with some freak-poses.

uterus tattoo

She loves her uterus!! I'm not sure I love mine enough to get it tattooed. Or maybe it's the other way around; maybe I love my skin too much to have a uterus tattooed on it. Nevertheless, I think it's fun and cool that this girl had it done! I wish I could see more of the garment she's holding down, as I like how it's got beetles sewn onto it (I bet you all noticed the beetles, when faced with the uterus-vagina view).

These photos are all from famous photographers, but I've been silly and haven't saved the names of the photographers.

human dolls

Miquette posted these massive Blythe heads being worn by models in her Strawberry Anarchy blog, and they were so freaky and weird that I had to re-post them.

I think it's interesting to see models with doll heads, as models are kind of like dolls anyway. They're meant to be moving mannequins showing off an image, a style. Seeing them wearing doll heads just exaggerates this unreality. An unreality more perfect than the real, an ideal. I'm reading a book at the moment(Uro by Finn Skårderud -it's in Norwegian) where a psychiatrist says we don't talk about personality any longer, we talk about image. Surface.

Blythe dolls are so cute, like little perfect and fashionable people. They have no soul, but it doesn't matter as long as they have image.

I'm sure it doesn't come as a big surprise that my favourite doll is the goth doll.. :

Here's a video of the human dolls in action. It's weird to see them move:

There's more pictures of the models wearing the doll heads and info on how the doll heads were made and worn in Miquette's blog Strawberry Anarchy.

The doll heads are made by Pink Cactus Props.

paintings on clay by Cecilie Mossige

My boyfriend finds them disgusting, I think they're beautiful. For me, good art has a bit of both - ugly, dark, disgusting + beautiful, sweet, pretty.

19th century pregnancy dolls

I've been looking at dolls lately, trying to get some inspiration for my new paintings. Dolls are strange objects. These japanese dolls has most likely primarily been used for education - but also for shows on the human body & wonders of nature - as a type of educational entertainment.

The babies lined up next to the doll are well funny:

i've been flashed in the park!!

as i was walking in tier garten in berlin earlier today, i saw this man sitting along a path with an umbrella on the ground. i thought it was sort of odd as it was really sunny. he was hiding his face, yet looking at me weird as i walked past him. i wondered if something was wrong, as he seemed uncomfortable and had chosen a really weird place to sit - just next to a bin.

a little further away i sat down under a tree to read a book, think about life and enjoy the fact that i had bothered taking a walk in the park. when i finally looked up again - i see mr. umbrella man walking about - NAKED! it was a surreal sight; he walked with grace, like he was pretending to be adam in eden or something. it was obvious that he was putting on a show for me. then someone else came along the path and he hurried back to where he had been sitting, put a t-shirt on and hid behind his umbrella.

i managed to get a photo of him as he was hurrying back to his umbrella hide-out:

aaand i've been kind enough to enlarge the bit with mr. umbrella man in so as to not disappoint any of my blog readers:

it would be funny if he found my blog and saw that i've uploaded a photo of him in the nude!

tier garten is in the center of berlin, and it's really crowded with people working out, eating lunch and taking care of the park- the last thing i had expected was seeing a man walk about "secretly" in the nude! i say secretly as i think the guards would have chucked him out if he was discovered. he was clearly not a nudist, but a pervy-man.

people are entertaining.

the queen of corsets

cathie jung has worn a corset 24/7 since 1983, and only takes it off when she needs a shower. she now has a 38 cm (15 inch) waist. she is married to an orthopedic surgeon who claims she hasn't suffered any problems due to her waist reduction.
she's born in 1937. that makes her... 72 years old?? she's well fit for being 72!! i think i'll be in my soft comfy-trousers when i'm 72, though,.. wrapped up in a fluffy blanket on the sofa in all sorts of slouchy positions..

check this corset out; it's silver! or metal at least, but i think i remember it being silver:

wow. that's devotion!
