I'm guessing this is an ink drawing.

Why does this illustration scream "French" and "France" to me? Is anyone else getting that association, or is it just me?

yarn never looked this cool

This yarn advertisement is so funky and psychedelic!

Using the female body to market products isn't exactly a new idea. In fact, I'm getting tired of how used up that 'idea' is. I'm also annoyed at the fact that I can't fully enjoy amazing illustrations like this yarn advertisement because it uses the female body to sell yarn. The female body is used to sell just about anything. I post a lot of pictures of scantily dressed women on my blog; it's not that I like women more than men, it's just that of all the pictures of scantily dressed people I find, most of them are women. And that is what I have a problem with. I shouldn't get annoyed. Seriously; negativity never achieves anything. My next post shall have scantily dressed men in it. It will be my little personal gift to cyberspace and humanity.

cute and mad sci fi illustrations

It looks like these pictures are scans from old magazines. All the details are lost when the pictures are downsized, so click on them to see the full scale madness.

I'm using this picture as my desktop at the moment. It looks like the guy holding the bone has found himself a treasure:

Via MONSTER BRAINS. <- such a fun blog full of monsters!!

erotic facesitting illustrations

I think I like the last one best, because of the woman's expression. She seems all chilled out and pleased with herself, hehe.

I wonder what the text says!???

Fritz Kahn - Man Machine (very steampunk!)

Comparing the body and the human being to a machine is partly a comical metaphor, partly a bleak metaphor.. and a lot of people even think that it is an accurate metaphor.

Fritz Kahn's illustrations of the body are weirdly practical and educational. He lived from 1888 to 1968, so these illustrations are from a time of industrial and technological growth and a naive faith in the wonders of the machine. Comparing the body to a machine was possibly more of a positive metaphor back then than it is now?

Sooo.. can a robot feel love? ;) I need to read the book called "Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep?" by Philip K. Dick.

A Visual Guide to Alien Beings

I know I'm not supposed to judge a book by it's cover, but if this particular book is anything near as good as it's cover then it must be really, really good. I want it.
The book is based on interviews of abductees who has explained what the aliens where like and looked like and such. It's fun to see that lizard people/reptilians has been included as my boyfriend has been telling me about this particular alien specie for a while. Also, mr. Chace claims he has been lucky enough to meet a reptilian alien lady, so he must know what he's talking about ;)

The cover reminds me a little of Päivi Laakso's elf paintings (blogged here).

I've read reviews of the book where people has said that they used to be sceptical about aliens but now they believe it all. Oh wow, I also want to believe in lizard people! Someone please buy me this book!

tentacle engravings by Dan Hillier

Phillipa Fioretti (her blog / Twitter ) sendt me a message on Twitter a while ago saying she had a look at the pictures on my site and thought I might like the altered engravings of Dan Hillier. I'm very pleased when people show me amazing things they think I'll like- and especially through Twitter, because it sort of justifies the fact that I have a Twitter account.

I'm also pleased when the things I'm shown has tentacles and look like Victorian monsters.

www.danhillier.com = Dan Hillier's art, info on how to buy- and even some pages from his sketchbook.

I've had more ace things recommended by my readers lately(and not so lately.. the type of lately that was a while ago), but have been too lazy busy to post it for everyone's enjoyment. I'll get to it sooner or later.

self portrait

This is a super-quick miniature sketch in my sketchbook that I've crudely coloured in in Photoshop. I'm really satisfied with it because it is possibly the best self portrait I've ever done!

pretty imagery by Jess Bonham

Jess Bonham is an illustrator/photographer/art director. I like it when people are good at different stuff and manages to combine their talents in their works.

fantasy art by Frank Frazetta

Frank Frazetta has drawn both Vampirella and Conan. I don't care much for either of the two characters, but I like the way they are drawn. Plump bodies, pretty colours, mystical mossy forests, people with wings, far-away planets.. it's a little cheesy, and it's probably not the style they would have preferred us to go for in art college, but it's fun and I love it.

I love sci-fi and fantasy art made in the 60's-70's. It's something about the muted colours, the softness and graininess in comparison to contemporary flat colours and harsh lines. Also there's a more erotic, calm and mysterious feeling to them than the harsh sexy, action fuelled weaponry fixated stuff I see a lot of now. Things where better before ha ha... naah.. even my grandmother disagrees with that.

gloomy illustration by Einar Norelius

Check out my blog post on John Bauer if you like this illustration, and want to see more of this style. John Bauer is my all time favourite illustrator - and he's been a major inspiration to a lot of fairy tale illustrators.

paintings by camilla d'errico

This lady is half Italian, half Canadian. It doesn't come as a big surprise that she started out doing comics, her paintings are totally manga comic inspired.

Aww how cute is this lamb thing:

Donnie Darko!! :

This Japanese manga comic style seems to be a trend at the moment, and Camilla D'errico is totally doing it right, yet adding her own flavour to the style. Her paintings are amazing and totally cute.

But where are all the boys?? I LOVE love love all the pretty little girls, but I'm sure I would also love the boys if I saw them. There seems to be a major lack of boys in this type of art - and in any type of art in general that isn't for homosexual men.

I feel inspired. I feel the need to do cute stuff. I'm not sure it's a good turn, as my art has become too sugary as it is and need a bit of serious in it. I feel the need to paint more men - only to even things out a little, and I feel like using colours. Sooo when my fingers are starting to hurt too much from my knitting obsession, I will surely start a new painting. I don't think it will be too long, as they hurt a lot as it is.

Sam

My friend Sam died recently. He was such a handsome guy with a heart of gold. He had infinite amounts of cute in him, was so fun to be with and had a contagious laughter. He did the best dance moves on the face of the planet. I can't believe I won't be able to see him again.

His sister asked me to do a drawing of him for his funeral, so I did this portrait of him:

I wish all the evil people would die first.
Life is unfair.

verunicastar!

One of the first things I hearted when I joined Etsy was this uv Buddha necklace by verunicastar:

I drooled over it for ages, so it was such a cool surprise when she contacted me months and months later, suggesting we'd do a trade.

This is her wearing the floppy eared hat I made for her. It totally suits her! I really like the yarn she picked for it as well (and I also really, really like her tattoo!!):

In addition to the uv Buddha chocker I also got a print of one of her beautiful mermaids - I love the way she draws! I haven't bought much art from other people before. I guess I've been thinking that I'm capable to draw or paint stuff myself, so why bother - but it's SUCH a difference having someone else's art up on the wall! It's really refreshening and inspiring to see someone else's style and skills.

This is the mermaid I got:

And here are some of her other cool drawings:

Veruncastar has a blog here on blogger, so go say hello to her! verunicastar.blogspot.com

And check out her Etsy shop filled with mermaids, zombies and funky jewelry!
